When flow'ry Summer is at hand, And Spring has gemm'd the earth with bloom, We hither bring, with loving hand, Bright flow'rs to deck our soldier's tomb.

A silent witness to the devastation of Hiroshima, this statue of Shinran Shonin, founder of the Jodo Shinshu school of Buddhism, serves as a reminder of the Buddha-Dharma and a gathering place for the New York Buddhist Church Bon observance. The Bon observance remembers and honors those who have passed away, and as we do so, the departed ones enables us to live with a sense of gratitude, as well as a commitment to lessen the violence in our world.

If you've never taken Yoga before, or if you're looking for an in-depth review of Integral Yoga's Hatha I class, Integral Yoga is offering a four week course class Introduction to Hatha I. In a course class the same teacher and students meet for three or four weeks, practicing the classic asanas of each level in-depth, with plenty of time for questions and personal attention. Every pose and practice is demonstrated by the teacher and introduced in a way that emphasizes both form and benefits to your mind and body. You will receive one-on-one assistance, developing your own body's comfort and ease. By working with the same teacher for four weeks, you'll come away fully prepared to attend regular classes at IYI and gain the unparalleled benefits of a regular Hatha Yoga practice.
For more information on Integral Yoga you can visit Integral Yoga Institute of New York, or for information on yoga in general you can visit Yoga Journal.

The statuary of Central Parks takes on new meaning these days—war seems everywhere. Located west of the Concert Ground, Christopher Fratin's Eagles and Prey was placed in the park in 1863, the year of the Gettysburg, Vicksburg, and the New York City Draft Riots.

On a sunny, hot day it is easy to miss the details of New York, but on a misty, rain-streaked winter day the details come out. The Bethesda Terrace is often over looked in favor of the fountain, but tucked between the great stairs and the underpass to the Mall are breathtaking decorative elements designed by English-born architect Jacob Wrey Mould.

"Are there not colleges for forty-year-olds which prepare them for their coming life and its demands as the ordinary colleges introduce our young people to a knowledge of the world? No, thoroughly unprepared we take the step into the afternoon of life, worse still, we take this step with the false assumption that our truths and ideals will serve us as hitherto. But we cannot live the afternoon of life according to the programme of life's morning; for what was great in the morning will be little at evening, and what in the morning was true will at evening have become a lie." :: Carl Jung, Collected Works.
